APPLICATIONS FOR THE INTERNATIONAL WRITERS RESIDENCY 2026 ARE NOW OPEN

WHAT THE WRITERS RESIDENCY INCLUDES

The international writing residency is designed to nurture an inspired and sustainable writing practice. We host activities that foster reflection, community, and cross-disciplinary exchange. Writers are offered time, space, and guidance to deepen their projects, connect with peers, and expand their creative and professional horizons.

A Dedicated Writing Space

Each resident writer is provided with their own writing desk within a shared, lively studio setting. The space is accessible at all times, offering freedom and solitude when needed, while still encouraging meaningful encounters and collaboration with other residents.

Accommodation (Optional)

Each resident writer is provided with a fully serviced private apartment featuring a kitchenette. The apartments are just a one-minute walk from the studios, allowing residents to move seamlessly between solitude and community. Have a look at the room and amenities

One-to-One Mentorship

We offer ongoing individual mentorship for those who wish to receive it. Writers may choose to have weekly one-to-one meetings to discuss their progress, explore creative questions, and receive editorial or conceptual feedback. These sessions can focus on any aspect of the writing process — from structure and rhythm to voice or publication strategies.

Literary Walk of the City

Residents are invited to take part in a guided literary walk through Thessaloniki, visiting bookshops, libraries, and sites of cultural significance. This shared journey connects writers with the living texture of the city and offers inspiration drawn from its layered histories.

Weekly Work-in-Progress Sessions

Each week, artists and writers gather informally over coffee to share their work-in-progress in a relaxed and supportive environment. These sessions encourage cross-disciplinary dialogue, collective brainstorming, and creative exchange.

Interdisciplinary Workshop

Each cycle includes a workshop designed to bridge writing and visual art. Residents are invited to experiment, play, and explore intuitive methods that blur boundaries between mediums and awaken new approaches to storytelling.

Open Mic & Publication

An open mic evening invites residents to share their work publicly within a welcoming local setting. At the end of the residency, a small zine featuring selected writings is published and presented during the closing art exhibition — a tangible trace of the creative community that took shape during the residency.

Promotion through Digital Platforms

The residency actively promotes the work and voices of our writers through our digital platforms. We share glimpses into each resident’s process, highlight readings and events, and introduce their work to a growing international community of editors, artists, and readers.

Contribution to the bEam Library

Writers are invited to donate a copy of their books to the ever-growing BEam Library — a living collection that reflects the voices and journeys of our past residents. The library grows with each cycle, creating an evolving archive of stories that remain rooted in the space long after the residency ends.

bEam arts is an independent, self-funded organisation and does not currently receive external financial support. For this reason, we encourage applicants to seek funding from national arts councils, cultural foundations, universities, or other grant bodies in their home country.

We are happy to provide any necessary documentation to support your application, including official letters of invitation or acceptance, confirmation of fees, and programme details. If you need tailored wording for a funding application, we can assist upon request.

SELECTION CRITIRIA

We welcome applications from writers of all genres who are committed to their craft and open to dialogue and exchange. Selection is based on the clarity of your proposal, the quality of your writing, and your willingness to engage with the residency as a focused and generous time for exploration. We value thoughtful approaches, curiosity, an interest in being part of a community of writers and artists, and a sense of commitment—whether you’re developing a new manuscript, continuing an ongoing project, or seeking time to reflect and write within a shared creative environment.
